In 1999, young BENJAMIN COHEN (5) is playing outside under the watchful eyes of his parents, DANIEL COHEN (35) and ELIZABETH COHEN (32). They start to notice that Benjamin is troubled by loud noises and struggles to stay focused.
Concerned, they bring him to DR. HENDERSON (46), who diagnoses Benjamin with autism. Elizabeth embraces her son's diagnosis, while Daniel struggles to accept the reality that their life might differ from the one he had imagined.
Thirteen years later, Benjamin is a teenager navigating high school life as a reclusive loner. Daniel’s patience has worn thin, and the father-son relationship has grown increasingly tense. Benjamin, in search of an outlet, loses himself in writing songs, often dreaming of composing music for a boy at school named Max.
At school, Benjamin is regularly targeted by bully JASON (18) along with his friends NATE (18), KYLE (17), and BRANDON (17). One day, MAX intervenes and scares off the bullies, showing Benjamin a rare act of kindness, which deepens Benjamin’s infatuation.
Determined, Benjamin decides to perform a song at the school prom. On stage, he sings a love ballad, locking eyes with Max in a way that reveals his feelings. Benjamin is mocked by his classmates and violently attacked by the...
