In his dingy trailer, WILL CHAMBERS (44) anticipates a fight with authorities. Five years earlier, WILL (39) and SARA (32) drive from Ohio to Los Angeles, seeking to start a new life. Will is hoping for his film career to take off. They’re attacked by STEPHANO MORETTI (60) and his crime syndicate in their motel room. Stephano wants Will to pay off his massive debts by replacing one of his men for a jail sentence. Will is sentenced to jail. Meanwhile, Sara is shot and killed while she resists the rape attempt of one of her captors. Will meets DESHAWN BROWN (32), a convicted rapist. He tries to befriend ANGELO NICINI (47), who he knows is Moretti’s watchdog. Angelo violently rejects Will at first. However, Will convinces Angelo to help him write a screenplay to make once he leaves jail. Later, DeShawn confesses he was also framed for his crime. Will gets Angelo to open up about his experiences with Moretti by pointing out that the best stories have real-life inspiration. Will learns about the operations of Moretti and his son Carlo.
