In 1973, the United States fights another Civil War. Washington D.C. is destroyed. In the 1800s, MARCUS (12), who comes from the 1970s, arrives. Meanwhile, Confederate soldier WILLIAM BAINBRIDGE (16) grieves for his dead brother, Michael. Michael has been killed recently by BLACK SPARTACUS (60s), a vigilante who targets whites in the Confederacy. Since Michael’s death, William is expected to marry CAROLINE MANNIX (?), Michael’s widow.
William is called to meet his father, CAPTAIN JOHN BAINBRIDGE (45). As William approaches, he sees Bainbridge talking to HORACE VORLE (50). Nearby is SILAS VORLE (32), Horace’s son, who insults Michael’s memory. After the Vorles leave, Bainbridge and William argue over whether William should remain on the frontlines or leave to marry Caroline.
Later, Bainbridge, William, and their brigade race to the scene of Spartacus’ latest attack. They find PAUL LEWIS (50s), a survivor. Paul confirms that Black Spartacus is responsible. Paul, injured, begs to be left to die. Bainbridge kills Paul as an act of mercy.
During this time, Spartacus and his men, including AJAX (24) and VIRGIL (70s), attack. William is shot and loses consciousness beneath his dead horse. The rest of Bainbridge’s men are killed. Spartacus keeps an injured Bainbridge alive to...
