In 1665, the bustling Jamaican seaside city of Port Royal is officially under British rule but still besieged by past political and social tensions. The British governor enlists a reluctant young former military man, now working as a pirate, to lead a privately funded militia to take on a mysterious group of Spanish rebels still living in the mountains.
In 1665, a British privateer in colonial Jamaica reluctantly agrees to lead a militia to fight dangerous rebels on the island, who are, unbeknownst to him, comprised of freed Black slaves attempting to establish their own society. Soon the privateer finds himself caught up in the personal and political complexities of the dynamics on the island, many of them deadly.
In 1665 colonial Jamaica, Captain Henry Morgan reluctantly agrees to lead a militia to rid the island of a dangerous and mysterious group of Spanish rebels.

On a slave ship in 1659, HENRY MORGAN (24) watches as his CAPTAIN (40’s) tortures and kills BLACK SLAVES.
Six years later, Morgan is a captain of ships docked in Port Royal in the English colony of Jamaica, where, along with CAPTAIN PITT (30’s), they do the bidding of English governor THOMAS MODYFORD (45). Modyford is concerned about the Spanish who lie in wait in the water, and bands of rebels who attack settlements on the island. Morgan is anxious to return to London and doesn’t like seeing the Africans brought in as slaves, but it is needed in Jamaica.
STEWART ROBINSON (20), an immigrant, arrives to work off his passage at a store owned by Port Royal businessman JAMES BEACONSFIELD (40’s). There he meets cook STELLA MOSES (50’s), who takes care of him and fellow employees DUNCAN REEVE (20), and JODI PRICE (20).
Morgan meets with Modyford, who wants him to lead a militia aimed at ridding the island of the Spanish aggressors, but Morgan thinks it’s a bad idea, citing his unwillingness to engage in violent battle, despite his reputation for it. Modyford entices him with a promise of land and freedom from England.
