A therapist still grieving the loss of his daughter is asked to help with an investigation, where a mute girl is the key to solving a murder that was the cause of her condition.
A gifted therapist who lost his daughter in a drowning accident is asked to work on a case where a young girl who has been a victim of trauma has witnessed some crimes. He is reluctant to work with a patient again, but works with her to try to understand what she saw and what happened to her parents.

ADIRA COLMAN (6) wanders out of the woods, bloody. ROBERT SPENCER (37) and AMANDA SPENCER (35) lose their daughter, EMILY SPENCER (7), in a drowning accident at grandparents’ CHARLES (66) and ELLEN SPENCER’s (67) house.

PHILLIP FLEMING (37) comes to Robert to ask for advice on Adira, whom he thinks has traumatic mutism. Along with SHERIFF MIKE LEE (48) and CONSTABLE RAY HOLDER (40), Robert begins trying to find out what happened to Adira, including interviewing MR. LANDOLFI (67), MRS. LANDOLFI (66), THE BUTCHER (48), MRS. SIMPSON (44), and MR. SIMPSON (50).

Robert finds that a bracelet which belongs to Adira came from a school in California. Robert uses positive reinforcement to finally get Adira to speak. She tells him she wishes to go back to happier times. VIVIAN COLEMAN (65) and ADMIRAL STAN COLEMAN (67), Adira’s grandparents, take her in. Soon after, Sheriff Lee discovers that Adira’s parents were killed for being in proximity to a drug-dealing feud. BOO (27) is killed after Lee questions him about his criminal cousin, who is the murder suspect.

Robert and Amanda start to reconnect, but he misjudgingly gets angry when he sees her with NICK PALMER (40) at a grocery store. A MASKED MAN (?) threatens Robert. Sheriff Lee thinks it may be DEPUTY MARTIN SWEENY (33), whom he...
