Locations are set in New Jersey and include a high school with various classrooms and offices, a library, gym, stairwell, bathroom, and football field. Other areas include a house, hospital, Wall Street Office, parking lot, delicatessen, prison cell, cinema, and street.
CHARLIE ROCKFORD (15) lives in a family of overachievers but is an average student himself. One morning, he asks his sister, JENNIFER (17), for a ride to school. She says no. To make matters worse, Charlie and Jennifer's father, JOHN (40s), tells the teenagers that they will be moving due to the fact that he has been promoted recently. Upset, Charlie goes to school. He tells his friend, YVONNE (15), about the move. She is sad about the news.

Meanwhile, JACKIE (15), the teenager Charlie is attracted to, approaches him. A cheerleader, she gives Charlie, a football player, a spirit care package. He thanks her, and she walks away. When VINCE (16), the captain of the football team, realizes what Jackie gifted Charlie, Vince becomes jealous that his girlfriend, ADINA (15), did not give him a nice care package.

Afterward, Charlie talks to his friends, JULIUS (15) and FONG (15), about the upcoming Homecoming dance. Charlie learns that he has until the end of the day to find a date. Another friend, CHIP (15), encourages Charlie to ask Jackie to the dance. Charlie begins to plan the perfect way to do so.

During class, the school bully, NICK (17), and his sidekick, PURDI (15), tell Charlie that Jackie will reject his...
