KIAN KEATING (37) is struggling to load his car with luggage for his hiking trip with his daughter, HANNA KEATING (13). Hanna initially resists to joining him on the road trip but after some pushing, reluctantly agrees.

Kian starts sharing some of the good memories he had with his father.

FLASHBACK TO 2005. KIAN (now 23) is traveling to his mother, ZORA's (51) home. After getting settled, they then make their way to the hospital. When they arrive, Kian is introduced to DR. GLADSTONE (mid-40's), the doctor who is taking care of his father. They are led to a hospital room where they find JERRY (now 53) who looks much weaker than before. Kian begins to inquire about Jerry's treatment but is interrupted when Gladstone informs him that Jerry didn't want to know that information. When Gladstone leaves, Kian asks about his condition again and is told he has a likely curable form of cancer- B-cell Lymphoma.

Gladstone confirms Jerry pulled a back muscle and administers a CT scan. Afterward, Gladstone introduces the family to DR. KIM REISS-BINDER. She reveals that he now has T-cell lymphoma, a much more aggressive form of his cancer. They're all now much more nervous.
