A young woman takes her niece and nephew trick-or-treating and discovers a note inside a candy wrapperthat says there’s a killer loose on her block.
When a young aunt takes her two kids trick-or-treating she finds a candy wrapper with a mysterious message and past memories begin to haunt her as she realizes the person who kidnapped her best friend is back in her neighborhood.
On the night of halloween, a troubled woman with a dark past discovers a note inside a candy wrapper that reveals a killer is out for treats.
Traumatized by the kidnapping of her best friend under the hands of the Smiler, a woman is anxious about his return. This anxiety becomes the reality when she finds a mysterious note on Halloween night hinting at the Smiler’s presence.

SAMANTHA BOWEN (18) a wallflower, packs for college. LILA WAKEFIELD (18), Sam's best friend, creeps through the window. Lila convinces Sam to sneak out, and the two go to a lookout point. There, a phone rings, but it's neither Sam's or Lila's. Lila finds the phone and answers it. A man answers and says he'll see both of them very soon. Chilled, Samantha sprints to the car. She sees a dark figure wearing a yellow smiley emoji mask. “Smiler” whacks Samantha hard with a tree branch.

Lila runs after her, but Smiler runs Lila over, and drives off with Samantha. Two years later on Halloween day, Lila sees her therapist, MAUREEN COLGAN (40s). In the two years, Lila has become troubled and Samantha’s alleged kidnaper, Will Halforth, committed suicide in jail. At the grocery store, Lila gets meat for dinner with her niece and nephew. When she returns to the cart, she sees her eggs have been smashed. She notices the culprit: ELAINE BOWEN (Adult), Samantha's mom who now looks haggard.
