When a kid starts to realize that the voice in his head may not be a part of his imagination, he seeks to discover the source of it, while hiding his plans from his abusive parents.

Present. A few days.
90% takes place in an old house. Other scenes in an elementary school, school bus, shed, suburban house, and a suburban neighborhood.
PETER (8), a young boy, hears a tapping noise coming from the walls in his room. He runs into his parents’ room and tells them about the noise, but his parents, MOTHER (Adult) and FATHER (Adult), brush it off. Peter goes back into his room and this time, he hears a girl’s voice.

On the bus ride to school, BRIAN (8), class bully, trips Peter. During class, MISS DEVINE (30s), Peter’s teacher, notices a drawing he made of a boy in bed, surrounded by darkness, with the words “HELP ME” written on it.

Father tells Peter that he’ll put out rat poison to stop the noises Peter hears, but the tapping persists. On the playground, Brian shoves Peter from behind, causing him to drop and destroy a pumpkin.

Peter runs away from school to his house. Miss Devine visits his home and pulls out Peter’s drawing, suggesting that it may be a sign of a deeper issue. Mother doesn’t listen.

When Miss Devine leaves, Mother and Father confront Peter about the picture and threaten to ground him, drilling into his head that the girl he hears isn’t real.

His parents lock him in his room. He...
