Starting in the heat of battle in Greensboro, North Carolina March 15th, 1781. Continental soldiers and brothers ANDREW and JAMES THOMAS die in the fight. Fellow soldier and friend, WILLIAM JAFFERS (20) delivers the news to their family, father BENGAMIN THOMAS (40s). The maid, house keeper, DEBORAH SAMPSON (20s) answers the door when William arrives. She takes the news as heavy as the parents. Deborah makes her was to enlist, her long hair tucked into a helmet. At the registry she does not have a fake name in mind, and coupled with being recognized she fleas.
Soldiers come to the Thomas house to make her arrest for falsely identifying, but Ben covers for her. In fact, he lends her his sons clothing and sends her on her way out of their small town to the big city to enlist. Better prepared, with a gun bought from revolutionary hero PAUL REVERE, Deborah enlists. She is assigned to the same Calvary as William under the direction of take-no-shit CAPTAIN WEBB. William recognizes her but is unable to place her as a female. She is initially assigned to cooking duty, but when she demonstrates her ability to sew she is designated to be Captain Webb’...
