1-15-2021 - UPDATE - Disney hires Kyle Patrick Alvarez (The Stanford Prison Experiment, Homecoming, 13 Reasons Why) to direct. 11-8-2017 - Fox has bought the spec script “Crater” by John J. Griffin with Shawn Levy in talks to direct. Levy will produce along with 21 Laps’ Dan Levine. 1821 Pictures (Terry Dougas) and Mayhem Pictures (Gordon Gray) were attached when the spec went out in 2015. 21 Laps (Dan Levine) came on along with Fox. in 2017. This marks Griffin’s first script sale to a major studio. He was with a different manager, Kevin Donahue of Kevin Donahue Literary Management when the project was first sent out and set up with 1821 and Mayhem.
On the moon, five teens take an unauthorized and adventure-filled road trip just before one of them is tobe sent away on a seventy-five year journey to another planet, leaving behind his best friends.

Set several centuries in the future, over the course of three days. There are also some flashbacks and a montage that covers several years.
Lunar colony (home, cafeteria, garage, scaffolding), moon, interior of space rover, interior of storage facility, lunar caves, futuristic hospital.
In the sub-garage of a lunar mining colony, CALEB O’CONNELL (14) and his friends, ADDISON PLATH (14 going on 15), DYLAN THOMAS (14), BORNEY (13), and MARCUS TOLLEFSON (16) steal an old lunar Rover.
Cut to Caleb, speaking with MARIA SLATER (40’s), the supervisor of the base. They discuss Caleb’s seventy-five year journey to Omega – a paradise colony far out into space. Slater reveals that, since Caleb’s father died working in the mines, Caleb is will be shipped to Omega, a reward for his father’s contract. She tells Caleb that he will leave after a meteor shower, in seventy-two hours.
Afterward, Caleb meets his friends atop the scaffolding that looks out over the lunar landscape. They discuss plans for one last adventure before Caleb leaves – going across the moon to the Remembrance Caves, which house artefacts from Earth. Dylan convinces Addison – a new girl from Earth who has no friends – to help them steal a rover, since her father is a scientist and has access codes to the garage. She agrees – provided they agree to take her along.
After successfully stealing the over, the group sets off on their journey. Caleb remembers his father, MICHAEL O’CONNELL (Adult) telling him about road...
