A boy enters a stock-exchange competition in order to win a trip to the city of Atlanta and hopefully save his father’s means of earning a living.
During an awkward and transitory eighth grade year, a driven entrepreneur pursues victory in a school a stock market game that rewards the winner with a trip to the big city he longs to visit.

JOHN HOLBROOK (7) becomes friends with DANIELLE WRIGHT (8). Five years later, everyone else in school seems to have hit puberty before John (12) does, including Danielle. Danielle (13) has a boyfriend SHAWN (13), and she isn’t interested in John’s childish games and hobbies. John is obsessed with Y2K and wants to make enough money to go to Atlanta before Y2K hits. After Danielle refuses to help John, the two get into a fight. Danielle hits John. Unfortunately, Danielle isn’t the only friend John has problems with. ALLISON (13) and ANDREW (15) have grown up as well, and they aren’t interested in working on the Kids Club, which they all founded with John.

Meanwhile, DrugRitePrice, a chain pharmacy, has begun setting up a location in town, which will create competition for the drugstore that John’s dad RICH (46) works at. When Danielle and John are paired up to work on a stock market contest for school, John is excited, because winning the contest involves a trip to Atlanta. Immediately, John wants to invest in DrugRitePrice. He reveals to Danielle that Boney’s pharmacy, where Rich works, might have to close as a means to get Danielle to agree to John’s...
